I agree with the title, but not for the reason you mentioned.
I think they wanted to forget Wii U so badly they completed erased the progress made during that generation.
I don't have too many complaints about the 1P lineup. This year was definitely a little weak, but I don't expect every 1P release to appeal to me. For those that didn't have a Wii U, they're probably drowning in software. Next year is already solid. If 2019 doesn't float your boat, I don't know why you bothered with the platform at all knowing the trajectory of their previous efforts.
NSMBUDX, Yoshi CW, Fire Emblem 3H, Town, AC, Luigi, Metroid, Bayo
That's just what we know about and it's already looking hot, Hot, HOT. Nintendo sees the success of party games, so I'm guessing there's at least one of those in the mix as well. Take your pick of Wario or a Sports game/collection. Switch is going to be an absolute monster next year.
But there are issues. 3P is still weak (definitely the direct successor to 3DS here, but without some of the bigger early life exclusives), online is...yea, and the hope for added features slips further away each direct.
