Final Fantasy is getting back on Nintendo platform with a bang (8 FF games annouced for Switch), same games coming to XB1/PS4

Better still is that much of the data was replicated across the discs so the total file size is actually closer to 1.5 GB.  3DS easily could have been home to the game if SE wanted it.

They could have probably fit Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 on an 8GB 3DS cart with the appropriate compression and removal of duplicated assets.

The 3DS is certainly powerful enough to run PS1 level games.
