Well I wasn't expecting it to be the same version at all. I expect them to make a downport.  Like how Call of Duty was for the Wii or DS.  (Why did the DS get Modern Warfare 2 but not the Wii?) I mean if they made that huge downport FF XV pocket edition I see no reason why they can't do the same with Switch. It would also help  Final Fantasy in Japan.

Let's be clear - Pocket Edition is NOT a port. It is a abridged version the main. That is not something you should be hoping for. Pocket Edition should NEVER be seen as an alternative the actual game. SE will not make 2 version of a FF title.

FF16 will not be on Switch. It won't even be on PS4/XBOX. SE has already set the benchmark for the next gen Final Fantasy and neither of them are doable on current consoles. Go check out the "Future of Final Fantasy" tech demo and the Cry demo. The only way I can it happening is if they did the Stream service like with CAPCOM is doing with RE7.

Those tech demos are from over a year ago under a different approach, cry for one is over 3 years ago and was done on an engine that SE has since scrapped for the likes of UE4 you can't really use that as a basis as back then SE had a different outlook while today they're expanding their audience as much as they can for all their series I can easily see FFXVI being cross platform like how GTAV and Persona V operated. This is because clearly today's market is leading to a case where it is better to have wider reach with your games with a more grounded ambition then a blindly high ambition that limits the game.

Even your example with RE7 could be ported to Switch, FF in Japan has heavily declined from rivalling DQ to shifting just 1m which although good numbers is a step down from prior games and the series has been on a downward slide and I bet that SE recognising this is a key reason why they launching this barrage of FF on the NS as they've seen Bravely Default and Octopath do well and realise they've been ignoring a goldmine in the userbase for the longest time with their games.
