For those who don't want to read, the short version - a 19 year old guy had really bad, disabling OCD, he had to quit school and job because of it, and his mother told him to shoot himself, which he did, but the bullet disabled the part of the brain that caused his OCD and now he lives happily ever after.
Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.
