??? Third party support is actually getting better for Switch, and will be even better next year.

I don't think so. Nothing about the 3DS really warrants a direct successor, since Nintendo knows that most people are using the Switch exactly the way they want them to. Plus they've even acknowledged several times that the 3DS is an entry point to the Switch, which basically confirms that it's the successor.
