Angolmois is disappointing. The situation is still very interesting but it turns into shounen fluff when the fighting starts. Japanese soldiers are the best, the team of exiles are amazing killing machines, the protagonist is a virtual superhero and genius tactician, the Mongol soldiers are weaklings who rely on numbers and trickery, etc. Not the somewhat realistic approach I was hoping to see.
One of the tropes I hate the most is when five arrows kill five guys nearly simultaneously and then it shows the single bowman. Yeah, right, if you're going to pull bullshit like that, at least animate the bastard's godlike rapid-fire mode.
That, and people calmly talking in normal voices while the chopping down enemies left and right. Nothing feels more fake.
