Here is the week 28 update in terms of the two big consoles in Japan's path to be able to reach the commonly stated (in these sales threads) estimates for 2018 sales (2 mil for PS4, 4 mil for Switch) .
TWS | GD | YTD | AWN (Change) | |
PS4 | 17,596 | -22,096 | 1,025,293 | 40,612 (+920) |
Switch | 50,239 | -59,305 | 1,311,616 | 112,016 (+2472) |
TWS - This week's sales
GD - Goal differential, the difference between the average week needed from last week compared to this week's sales
YTD - Units sold in 2018 so far including this week's sales
AWN - Average weekly sales needed to reach the estimate for the console.
Moderate boost for Switch this week after strong first week sales (even with shortages) of Octopath Traveler as well as the port for Captain Toad. PS4 dropped another couple hundred units with only Mary Skelter releasing. Both consoles are selling around the same percentage of their AWN so they both continue onward but the short term prospects look particularly grim for PS4 with no big games on the horizon.
