Kind of a random question but why is it that devs seem to always target either 30 or 60fps? Is their a reason that say targeting stable 45fps isnt really a thing? |
As I understand it, the majority of screens refresh 60 times per second, so 30 and 60 fit neatly into that by displaying a new frame every 1 or 2 refreshes. 45 isn't a multiple of 60, so it wouldn't fit evenly into the screen's 60 refreshes, leaving some frames persisting on screen for longer and creating a subtle sense of judder.
G-Sync solves this by synchronizing screen refresh with frame output, but it's not really mainstream yet and so for most gamers either 30 or 60fps offers the most consistent experience.
