Why console crossplay will mean nothing in the long run

Sony doesn't need crossplay to sell consoles when it has exclusives people want to play. Crossplay only became a thing because ms needs it to compete against the ps4's player base in relation to multiplatform and hold outs want to play with everyone without having to buy the popular console.
