I get what you are saying and I agree. Some people simply want to play on Portable devices, some want the Console expereince, and some want the PC expereince. Once streaming gets sorted out, there will be a segment of the market that is content just streaming. It is in the best interest of any company in the industry to make sure they are reaching the widest userbase possible. That means supporting all of these sectors. For Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, that means offering more form factors that have a shared software library, so they can reach the $100 streaming audeince, the $300 - $500 Console/Handheld audience, and the $1000 high end Console/Handheld market. For a company like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, or any other 3rd party, that means putting your games on every platform possible, iOS, Android, Windows/Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Streaming.

I know good number of people that used to be COD only, that have now moved to Fortnite and/or PUBG, and have no interest going back to COD because they can't play on their iPhone/Android devices. In places where you can get a solid connection anywhere you go, this is already becoming a real thing. The casual audience, just wants to be able to access their content on whatever device they are using, they don't care about 4K, 60FPS, Ray Tracing, Cloud Computing, X86, ARM, OLED, or any other "nonsense". All they care about is that they can play there game whatever device the have on them, or whatever is hooked up to their TV. Hell I even know people that do everything via mirroring their Phone to the TV. I have one co-worker that I played Destiny, Fifa, and COD with after PS4 came out that, doesn't touch his PS4 anymore, because he either plays games on his phone, or mirrors his phone to his TV. Even though he could play Fortnite on the PS4, he would rather just play on his Phone.

Gaming is changing. Console makers and publishers are going to have to evolve with the audience or they will eventually be pushed aside, as indies that support the audience, become AAA studios and the landscape shifts. I know some people will say consoles are fine, look at PS4 at 80 million, look at PS4/XBO/Switch with close to 140 Million units sold. Well look at PSP and DS with 230 million units sold, then look at PS Vita and 3DS with 90 million sold. If consoles do not offer the basic necessities of a home device in 2020, they can disappear just as fast as handhelds did. If the PlayStation, Windows/Xbox, and Nintendo Ecosystems, can not go toe to toe with iOS and Android as a viable one stop shop for all of your personal computing needs, they are going to shink to unsustainable numbers.

So, yes platform agnostic gaming is a huge deal, and I hope Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are prepaired to do what they have to, to thrive and survive. I don't want to see another PS Vita/3DS scenario, where they refuse to add the most basic features, and just give up the market.

This was my point but you said it better than I could.
