I mean, I'm on record saying this game is more than I hoped for. If I thought I was actually getting a whole new game I'd be even happier.
It's not me who seems passionate about needing to convnice myself and others this game is 'brand new' or not.

Only reason I got involved in this, is because I came back looking to see the reaction of all the people who were die-hard about Nintendo spending several years on a new Smash, rather than just getting an enhanced Smash 4 ready for their 2018 lineup.
I didn't know this was even a debate until afterward.

The gameplay is changed, the character models are changed, the graphics are changed. It's a new game, even if you don't want to accept it as such.
