Nah, it mostly bombed because it wasn't a very good movie it wasn't better then the made for TV version of the film.  Pretty much all of the time movies bomb because they are bad.

Weird, because I looked at the poster and thought "Dope, I loved that book!" and then immediately swore the movie off after watching the trailer. It may not have been very good, either, but the very blatant identity politics they injected into one of my favorite books chased me away long before the reviews did.
