That's about what I was imagining.  So, basically, we should consider ourselves lucky to even have a site that functions at all.  

The site turns a profit as it has been pointed out before if the profit wasn't here then it would likely have been closed during the lapse in care that it got from the sites owner in the past couple of years as advertising on VGChartz is pretty heavy with 2-3 active adverts on most pages of the site.

That said this last 6 months, Since Jan or so the Alexa rank of the site has taken a fairly large dip from in the top 20k rank down to now below 32k, (8200 drop in the past 3 months) site views are likely to increase again around E3 time but I'm not sure if this dip is annual as the graph just shows a single year or if visits here are dropping because of other things.

But yeah the sites functionality will go hand in hand with its profitability. If it's making money it will be maintained by the sites owner if something drastic happens which would stop that flow.
