It never ends...

The Last Jedi Blu Ray Sales Drop to 56% of The Force Awakens

Further evidence that The Last Jedi sadly did turn off about half the audience, the-numbers.com is now reporting the launch week sales of The Last Jedi and... it's not good. Whereas The Force Awakens sold 3,420,540 units in its first week of release, The Last Jedi only sold 1,940,241 units. In raw monetary terms, the Last Jedi brought in over $40,000,000 less revenue in its first week of Blu Ray sales.

And the first reply to the post:

"Yet it sold better in its first week than Rogue One did according to this site. And that seemed like it was really well received by fans. Is it not possible that TFA was a mega-event due to it being the first Star Wars film in a decade?"

Seems reasonable to me. Domestically, TFA was the highest-grossing movie by far of the past 20 years, fifth highest-grossing of the "blockbuster era" of cinema (1975 - present), and is the the fourth best-selling Blu-ray ever so far. But by all means, let's continue to use that as our bar for success. And why not apply that logic to everything? We could argue that the PS4 is still a failure because it won't sell nearly as well as the PS2, for example.

The difference is Rogue One was a side story. The Last Jedi was a numbered Episode. A 50%+ drop from one episode to the next is ridiculous.
