I went to listen to these so-called superior Japanese voices. I can confirm, no... no they are not better than the English =P

1. The voices in Japanese all sound kind of hammy/cartoonish, and don’t fit the characters.

2. Often you get a culture clearly based off of medieval England and you get some sort of American accent, which sounds really odd and takes you right out of the experience. Xenoblade 2’s Xenoblade dub is one of the few that actually goes the extra distance and base cultures off of locations in the UK and match up the proper accents:

Mor Ardain = Scotland - Alba Calvinich is the capital... Damn Scots and their Imperial tradition!

Gormotti = Wales, Leftherian = Yorkshire, Uraya = Cockney, Tantal = Winchester, Elysium & Torna terrorists = US, Indoline = London

Uraya is Australian, actually :P

But I also appreciate that different regions have different accents.

For me the biggest problem with the JP is Gramps.   Not only do I not like the voice, it is THE  MOST generic old man Japanese voice I've ever heard.

Oh Jesus, I totally see it now =P

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
