Peter is high school in New York. If the cast wasn't diverse it would be suspect. That's confirmation bias. The whole MJ thing bugs me because people still think she's Mary Jane. She's not. I loved the Spiderman cartoon in the 90s but it's warped peoples perception of when Mary Jane enters Peter's life. He dates her after Gwen Stacy dies. She may be his most famous love interest but she wasn't his first.
