Why does Nintendo need that? Online FPSs are perhaps the most oversaturated market and filled with more large-scale established franchises than it can manage, no dev team under Nintendo has experience in the field. It's one of the lowest opportunity for growth on the platform.

Good online Metroid Prime game it would be something that would distinguish Nintendo from the competition. And that means better sales of both MP4 and online service.

Nintendo already distinguished itself from the competition heavily with its brands and the Switch platform. An online FPS would actually be the least distinguishing thing they can do. The FPS genre is one of the most heavily saturated genres out there, and Metroid is somewhat of a medium tier franchise, it has less appeal than like Splatoon (which took the less contested third person route, certainly a more distinct approach than Metroid) and certainly less appeal than CoD and other major FPS franchises.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
