Every month there are a few games for free which you might not want or you already have, it's basically the same. Or you might get lucky that one game you want makes it to the list on a particular month, but it's pure luck.

Yes it's similar to PS+ but the big difference is that any of those free games from PS+ can also be bought individually, thus providing other options.

Whereas from what it seems right now, Nintendo is cutting out the option of just buying a game and, in a way, will be leaning gamers to purchase their subscription service as the only option to play those games.

Technically speaking, these games are not available elsewhere due to the new online functionality; but I get your point.

Either way, the games are so old that there are plenty of options on how to get them. Mainly emulation obviosuly, which I personally don't care if people do it at all, and don't think Nintendo cares too much either.
