OK, here's some suggestions for desktop:
- Detached buddy would really benefit from being resizable. It's not tall enough, and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the width either. The width isn't bad, but it looks somehow odd (and not in a good way). Alternatively, it's dimensions could be tweaked, but the really good solution would be to make it properly resizable (and yes, I'm aware of the width adjustment button on it).
- Detached buddy has poor colours. It kind of blends into the background but not really. I tried a different colour really quickly, and simply using a darker share of gray seemed a lot better. There might be an even better option, but making it darker also helps a lot.
- I still don't like how the top bar follows you around. It takes up valuable vertical space without being very useful, and it's way bigger than it needs to be. For comparison, it looks roughly 1.5 times the height of the top bar on Twitter. The main culprit here are the icons in the top right of the bar. The need to be smaller.
- While you're at it, make the social media icon on the top bar sharper. It's really blurry. Making stuff on the top bar less tall might help with this, but either way, increasing the icon's resolution also seems necessary. Also, having the social media icons fill the whole width doesn't look too great. I can live with them being behind a popup (although I'm not a huge fan of that solution), but a screen-wide popup doesn't look too good.
- Make the top bar popup bars (e.g. social media, search) hideable! Right now, it's not possible to hide them once you've opened them.
- The chart image (with the sales bars) has a blurry title ('Global Hardware Totals'). Its resolution should be increased.
Also, while the site generally feels like it works fairly well on desktop, something does make it feel like it was designed with heavy focus on mobile devices. It's possible my suggestions above will already help with it, but beyond that, I'm not sure what can be done. One possibility is to add some more structure to the site in the form of subtle but visible dividers. In practice, this probably means separating the three main columns with vertical dividers. One problem is that forum hot topics aren't separated from site background in any way, which a vertical divider might help with a bit. Of course this suggestion is somewhat problematic, as I imagine fitting vertical dividers can be difficult to pull off in a way that looks decent.
