Except that’s what they’re already doing with Game Freak.

as a footnote, I think what’s also lost in the shuffle with all these promotions and retirement is Takashi Tezuka, one of the long-time game developers who is sorta the Luigi to Miyamoto’s Mario, has joined the Board of Directors.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here. In my eyes the Pokemon series has always felt AA. No voice acting, minimal improvements each generation, took them until 2013 to finally go 3D, etc. I was hoping that would change with the upcoming Switch game, but if recent leaks are any indication, the next game is still AA, at least from a graphical standpoint. Hopefully they'll at least make other improvements.

My dream has always been to have a AAA Pokemon game. Open world, or at least substantially bigger routes and cities. Pokemon visible on the open world, replacing the dated random encounter system. At least partial voice acting for main story characters (parents, Professor, rivals, gym leaders, enemy team leader and admins, elite four). Huge leap in graphics with a cell-shaded art-style made to look kind of like the Pokemon anime. New and improved animations for every attack. Unfortunately, at the rate Game Freak improves with each new game, it might be another generation before we even get close to such a game.

That’s quite a challenge, considering that you have to consider that over 800+ Pokemon have to be animated and modeled into HD, not to mention the potential new Pokemon that are being designed. Plus how to incorporate them into respectable habitats that makes sense to each species. I guess they could start small in terms of number of Pokémon but who knows. As for voice acting, I guess if they have to manage a budget, they could have actors do one liners and grunts. I can see more detailed worlds being possible.
