Is the implementation of a 'like' system beneficial of detrimental?

It doesn't even matter because unlike the news articles, it won't hide or move posts around. And thank god for that. Also, if any of you have ad block plus, you can click "block element" on both the picture of the thumb and the "like count"... thus eliminating it entirely.
