DBZ is a global phenomenon it's pretty much at the same level as Pokemon in terms of brand recognition, hell game companies like Nintendo wish they created DragonBall since it's a national icon and one of the most succesful Japanese names in media ever. Dragon Ball the anime is better than DBZ anime though. |
ive seen more memes and ironic joke threads about Dragon Ball than anything else, and i would argue a big chunk of its brand recognition stems from that. not to mention people have been pretty critical of the more recent incarnations of the show, and most of the games in general. im sure it wasnt always like this, but its at a point where i cant take it seriously
you bring up pokemon, which is and has been the biggest cultural phenomenon of the modern era since Red and Blue were released. every game in the main series receives critical acclaim, it has its own store chain, entire networks of website, TCG leagues, and communities who actually play the games and discuss it in an organized manner. all beyond anything ive seen from Dragon Ball.
