Why hasn't the Playstation Vita sold more than the PS4 in its first year then? 

Simply because, like the WiiU, the Vita is a complete failure. It also had a staggered launch, came in a year later than it’s immediate competitor, had a poor library, was close to 50% more expensive than its direct competitor, expensive proprietary memory cards. Just a poor comparison.
