A game that makes teenage girls around teenage boys comfortable in the same room without the awkward silence of them wonder if they will try to hit on me or not is a bad thing? It was good for breaking the ice with new people and fun to play. It achieved what is to get people to play together in the same room and laughing not sit there in a basement playing call of duty all day and night swearing at every one like a tool. |
The Wii and Wii Sports got me so many dates, or hangouts that morphed into dates, in college. Sometimes those dates led to other things. One of those dates led to a very meaningful relationship of several years that almost led to me getting wed.
I have a lot of fond memories of my games and consoles, but the Wii and Wii Sports are my favorite console and game pair of my adult years, screw what the haters say. It wasn't just a phenomenon; it was a fever, and no metacritic score will ever accurately capture what it meant to both gaming and society.
