Nintendo just got so much good press in 2017 I don't think they need the "fastest selling console of all time" headline anymore but would still be good marketing.
It would finally boucle the negativity they received during the Wii/Wii U era.

Which timeframe ? Cause I'm pretty sure the Wii stayed on top of it and is still beating it atm.
