I think the WiiU didn't get a price cut because they never achieved economy of scale in production that would lower the net cost to produce each unit, meaning they had to keep the price as was or else they'd lose money on each unit sold. I don't think that's an issue with the 3DS line, especially at this point. Without a Pokemon game coming to the handheld this year (I think), what other "system selling" games would there be to push units at this point? It's so late in the life cycle the way to move units now is to cut price.
