I consider Metroidvania a genre, and it's the one most (not all) Metroid games belong to. That's not why I said your post was nonsense, I said that because you literally said Metroidvania is "any game that uses level design". By your definition, basically every game is a Metroidvania.

I actually said " any game that uses that level design." That was my short hand for "Go wherever you want in the world if you have the right ability with a focus on backtracking and sequence breaking." It's why I like the genre name since it says in one word what I really wasn't even able to do properly here in 20+.
