Metroidvania isn't really my type of genre, but would be neat to see the series continue

You mean Metroid.

Metroidvania are the Castlevania games that copied the Metroid formula.

Actually a Metroidvania is any game that uses that level design.  Metroid is a Metroidvania by definition.  Castelvanias aren't, except for the ones that are, of course.  I understand the point you are making, but to suggest that Metroid isn't a Metroidvania would render that genre tag useless...and I actually think it's a pretty good  way to categorize these kinds of games.  And I do believe that Castlevania has earned the right to be part of that portmaneau as the series has created some great entries into the genre.

I'm really not hoping for a remake of Super Metroid.  The only Super Metroid remake I'd ever be excited about would be a 3D remake and I'm just not sure how likely that is.  What I'm most concerned about, though, is that there is no hand holding.  I want sequence breaks and I want to feel lost most of the time.  Metroid Fusion is definitely not the direction I want to see the series head into.
