I think PlayStation normally won out with games like Final Fantasy and titles that just "felt right" on PS (Metal Gear, for example) but games that catered to a Western audience (FPS, WRPG, Sandbox, etc) were solidly in the Xbox camp. I'm going off of memory which can be flawed, of course.

I'd say it was pretty even. Games like GTA 5 all the Soccer games and the racing games sold better on PS3. Shooting games, especially cod, sold better on Xbox. RPGs favoured PS3 but I think a few games like Oblivion sold better on Xbox. America sport games sold better on 360 while PS3 dominated JRPGs
