I literally put "home console" instead of "console" in the OP to avoid this very thing. And I meant in the USA . I mean, I read the thread! I guess I still blew it. Oh well. Life goes on. And Vita is totally backwards compatible with digital titles. My entire PSP Library (aside from Crisis Core and Metal Gear Portable Ops) is on my Vita. Probably 50 games instantly in my library. But if you don't consider that backwards comp, that's cool. Whatever you call it, I'd love if the Switch had it. When I bought my WiiU, I could download my Wii digital purchases in "Wii Mode". I'd love if my purchase of Super Mario Bros would transfer to the Switch whenever they put it on that console. I've already bought it multiple times. Lastly, I know the Vita's weakness and the Switch's strength (one of them at least) is games. That's why I did the whole "features vs games" thing in the OP. Features don't really matter when all you want to do is play your favorite games. I know this! Features are nice, though...
*Edit* as far as pricing, I think the Switch is a good deal. If it didn't have a screen and it was home console only, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for what we get. And that's being generous! Being a home/portable device, I'm happy with $300. |
Pretty much. The psp only sold as well as it did because it was a great PMP that doubled as a console. As seen by the horrible attatch rates... and when proper cheap smartphones (and everyone started using them)came along around 2010, that market died a flaming death, which was wht the vita was so slow.
Remember the ps1's 299 obliterating the saturn, and how SoA president said that 299 was the upper limit? Well for handhelds that was 199. The vita AND 3ds fell to this and only the quick drop to 170 really saved the 3ds.
The switch, as a hybrid, can hit 299 tho.
