All AAA games on Switch use 16GB cart, anything outside 32GB is on micro SD card. I told you Nintendo customers love physical games and of course they care if they are good games like Skyrim or Doom but not something like Fifa. Semi custom is still custom, in fact Nintendo underclock Switch CPU quite a bit. In 2020 they can do the same with Switch 2. Sales of Switch is high in US and look at top ten, how many games are third party? Can Sony do the same with their first party games? Again, i said Switch games is way more lighter than on ps, even with big AAA game need install, they are still a lot smaller than ps ones. Switch is "safe" devices, OK, except almost everyone said it will fail hard, GameCube number at best. Now you are saying it is a safe choice when it fail, Nintendo is screw with both handheld/console fuse into one, but i will believe it is safe console because you said so. When talk about ps, people will think about the cinematic quality with beautiful graphic and a generation ahead Nintendo but now all of it will be give up for battery, right? Also, basically you are saying Sony will copy Nintendo idea about hybrid. This time last year i don't think i have seen any article or any people talk about Sony will make a hybrid like Nintendo but now you all are talking about it and assume it will be a big success. Why is that? |
So some PS portable games have to at least ship in some sort of physical format up to 16GB, then all other games can be digital to micro SD and that's ok? Good to know. Anyone who has a Switch, and likes AAA games, and also wants AAA games, but doesn't like Doom or Skyrim but likes Fifa, shouldn't be able to have Fifa because the existing majority don't like it? I'm sure if PS designed their system so it was a huge pain for third parties to get their games on it, plus if few of their audience wanted third party, then yes, PS games would be the highest sellers on their own platform, just like Nin/Switch.
Semi-custom is custom to a degree, but simply downclocking is not custom. Anybody can buy a stock chip and overclock or downclock. It would be like driving your car slower than everyone else and telling them that makes your car custom. Speed only makes it custom if you physically change the internals. If Xavier or whatever Tegra chip gets shrunk near 2020, and/or downclocked, it should meet the power requirements for a Switch 2, but then you also have to allow the same for AMD. Ryzen u series is 15w right now on 14nm, and AMD are shrinking to 7nm in 2019, which means the chip should go down to around 8w. You would now have PS4 level performance for the same power usage as Switch and X1, or the new Switch 2 and Xavier/X3/X4. Both devices would end up having similar performance and similar battery life.
You say third party game file sizes are much smaller than PS, yet the carts still aren't big enough for many of those games, so what's the difference if you download the game to Switch and/or put it on a card, vs downloading a game to PS portable and/or put it on a card? Some people thought Switch would fail, but many, especially Nin fans, thought it would succeed. Nin consoles have sold less and less over time, yet their handhelds have extremely strong staying power, so creating a handheld/console hybrid was quite a safe bet. Much safer than many of the other options Nin had. Also, why do you compare Switch failing to Gamecube? Do you think Gamecube failed? I don't know who thinks PS is a gen ahead of Nin, because Nin has always been a gen ahead of PS. Gamecube even had better graphics than PS2.
PS won't be giving up their cinematic games, because they will still have a home console to provide that experience if you require it. If you require a handheld experience, then they could offer you that as well, with the understanding that the graphics may be downgraded to do so. Did PSP have better graphics than PS2? Did Vita have better graphics than PS3? Then why can't the PS portable have slightly worse graphics than the PS4? No I'm not saying PS will copy Switch, because PSP used to have a dock accessory, so it's really Nin who copied PS with Switch. So your saying unless somebody in the media decides to mention a potential PS portable, even if it's just speculation, that it's impossible for it to happen? People aren't aloud to think for themselves and wonder what if PS made a new portable and could it succeed? What if Nin makes a Switch 2/mini/XL and would it succeed? What if XB becomes more of a steam machine and would it succeed? The reason Switch exists it because someone at Nin came up with the idea, or found inspiration in a similar one, so imagining what could be, is a good thing, in small doses anyway.
