And this is why I think MS will stick with XBox as a complementary platform to PC. They make the most money out of software anyways, and the way they have set things up now, they make money both on the console side and on PC.

I think some people forget that MSFT is a software company above all else. A software company wants to sell software. There's a reason why MSFT has software and services available on android, iOS and MacOS, and it's not because they are charitable. 

Sony on the other hand is a consumer electronics company first, so they are looking at things from a completely different perspective.

Exactly, they have different views of the industry and the problem has been that MS steared away too much from PC during the 360 years. I would prefer if all three focused on their strengths, not trying to emulate each other too much.
