To be fair, while he may have loss the spectacle of some scenes (the visuals were never one of the complaints, except maybe some poor CG in a few spots), he'll still be able to experience/judge the flaws in the plot/characters of the movie.

Some people just don't want to give this movie their support and money. I know I don't. I got in a free showing at my son's theater. If it had been great, I probably would have paid to see it with a friend. 

I somehow remain doubtful of his openmindedness when that's how he chose to see the movie. Would his opinion have been different if he went to the theater? I don't know, but it seems to me like he had already decided to dislike it before he saw it, and when you reach taht point, it's hard to change your mind.
