Something being family "safe" and family/child orriented are not the same thing. Given it's design style, Breath of the Wild will have the strongest appeal to late teens and young adults for example. Super Mario Odyssey directly and deliberately follows in the footsteps of games people in their mid to late twenties will be most nostalgic for. Xenoblade Chronicles is certainly no child's game and seems to be doing pretty well. Nintendo's games are content safe for a wide range of ages, but their appeal is much broader and their marketing angle with the Switch has consistently favored late teens to late twenties, not children.
