There were plenty of comedy elements in the original trilogy. I mean, Han Solo is a one-liner machine, there were plenty of fun moments with it. One of the problem with the prequels is that they were pretty much humourless, except for Jar Jar Binks, which isn't the best example of good comedy xD. I think people might forget that SW movies are pretty much, big, bombastic, fun adventure films. They're not exactly what I'd call drama, dark films. Although there are plenty of dark moments, that's not the general tone. So I was pretty surprised to hear people complaining about comedy in a SW film.

There's a big difference between witty remarks like the banter between Han and Leia and slapstick comedy like the rock Rey just sliced knocking the cart from those indigenous creatures or BB8 being used as a slot machine by a drunk alien.

Well, yeah, the comedy is pretty different, I agree with this. I'm fine with people who says that they didn't like the type of comedy this film has. I'm just bewildered at an awful lots of comments in the Internet saying that comedy isn't a Star Wars thing. Which is bullshit, obviously. I enjoyed the comedy in this film, I thought they mixed well comedy and light-hearted moments with the more dramatic stuff. But I can understand that this comedy is not for everyone's tastes, I feel that's a valid criticism.
