It comes from a place of loving something so much, that you rather have people not make anything at all. If you ask me, the new movies were not needed. I'd rather have something completely new, or set way back in time (Old Republic). That way there is room to do something new and take risk with the conventions. But it seems that Disney wanted to use a little extra nostalgia bait by tying it in with the original trilogy. It sucks in my opinion.

The problem with that is that when people are truly, truly, truly passionate about something, their opinion tends to rank between love or hate. I can understand that when you love something too much, there's probably not middle ground. I wouldn't dare to say that their opinions are invalid, I think that almost everyone has something to say which is worth hearing. 

About this particular film, I wouldn't say that they used a lot of nostalgia bait. They really took risks with this film, risks that will probably translate into a pretty polarized reaction among the fandom. I think it's worth seeing just because of that. What Disney did to make a lot of people angry about the film? That's interesting on its own. 

I'd love your idea to make a trilogy based on the Old Republic. I'm just hoping that they listen to the fandom, because a lot of people is waiting for that, me included.
