As a temporary fix everywhere (if you'd like to go that route), couldn't you replace the image file with something that doesn't change anything (i.e. a fully transparent image)? Not that I mind the current situation, but in case you would like suggestions...

Maybe because it's gone? Well, from the most visible part at least. It's still there's on the rich text reply page, and probably somewhere else too.
