| Jon-Erich said: I'm pretty sure Zack Snyder is not coming back, or if he is it'll be some smaller role such as an assistant writer or creative consultant. Just the fact that Warner Bros. demanded that $25 million in reshoots for Justice League says it all. Not to mention Zack Snyder doesn't seem to be involved in any upcoming DCEU film to date. Man of Steel 2 was sort of announced and Zack Snyder's name has not even been mentioned. Warner Bros. have been reaching out to other potential directors. I honestly think that if Matt Reeves can pull off his vision for Batman as a film noir detective story that has a Hitchcock influence, then he gonna be Warner's new go-to director. |
This film went way over budget really due to the reshoots. Rumors say that 15-20% of the film is the Whedon part, which means most cuts removed Snyder's work. It seems that BvS still impacted JL, so the best way to go is removing Snyder from the direction. I'm not sure if it's entirely his fault, but he is too associated to these failures to keep going.
Matt Reeves said in a recent interview that Snyder will remain (he also said that Ben Affleck will remain as Batman), but I take that with a grain of salt.
I believe it's more likely that Warner keeps Joss Whedon for the JL. I've read that most of the Superman scenes on the film were either filmed by Whedon or edited to fit his vision. And that's a way better Superman than what Snyder showed on MoS and BvS: he is now hopeful and light-hearted and that's the real Superman. The whole russian family was Whedon and I thought it added a bit of heart to the end drama, with the heroes going out of their way to save them. Whedon also added all these stuff about the Flash lacking confidence during battles, which was a nice touch since he really has way less experience than the others (except Cyborg). The first post-credit scene is also Whedon and that was a big nod to comic book fans and ended up great.
You can check the rumored changes Whedon did here:

If this is all true, then Whedon really improved the film a LOT. Most of the things Snyder did that were left out were a bit crappy and the Whedon changes were key to make characters more relatable.
