The sequels always pay for the movie that came first. I always think about how Transformers 2 did gangbusters on the back of the good will from the first movie, then when everyone realized that one was horrible, the third movie got dinged at the box office.
BvS word of mouth is what caused this, not to mention Snyder's pedigree. Those are the two big reasons I didn't see it this week, but I will eventually.
