Low-effort cashgrabs shouldn't be the expected norm though, quality sequels that add a lot to the story and change the main game should be (like B2/W2, to a far lesser extent Emerald).

The main story of US/UM is 100% the same as S/M right until the point where you summon the legendary, and then it throws you into a horrible, gyroscope controlled (!!) minigame. The Ultra Recon Squad add nought to the game, apart from one or two battles, Ultra Space is barely Aether Foundation sized, Mantine Surfing is only a thing between two islands and Rainbow Rocket is post-game. The few new Pokemon are cool additions, but even they have zero impact on the main game, and no appearances either, outside of the endgame battle, and Ultra Recon Squad. It's pretty much S/M's Platinum, it really should have just been DLC for S/M and it is absolutely not worth picking up if you have those already.

If it means that they've had more hands on deck for the Switch game and as a result it'll be mind-blowing, then great, but I want to see it first.

Did the game leak?

Yeah, it leaked three-four days ago, available to download now in those unmentionable places. I have a copy pre-ordered so I just went ahead and grabbed it and... it's very disappointing if your expectations were anywhere above the absolute bare minimum.
