There are quite a few games I would call casual.... tv/movie tie in games (e.g cars 3), Just Dance, Skylanders, most of the lego games, some nintendo games (amiibo festival, wii party U, mario party, 1-2 Switch) and more. Sure these type of games have become a bit sparse compared to last gen, but they are still clearly here. |
Those aren’t casual games.
The term casual game was coined by Nintendo for Brain Age and specifically refers to games designed to be picked up and played for short periods of time (a few minutes per game session). They’re also designed that when you put it down and come back later there will be new stuff to do, and the hopes are to keep the player engaged over long periods of time. With Brain Age, Nintendo made it a daily thing, but more recent games have made it approximately every 2 to 6 hours, but generally have a daily reward program to encourage players to log in at least once a day.
Casual games are big on mobile, and include games like Clash Of Clans, Clash Royale, and Candy Crush Saga.
