I'll admit I haven't played Tooie or Kazooie since I had a tube tv due to the N64 graphics, but I do remember them being a bit more involved and more difficult. Yes, it could be some age difference, but I even beat those games several times. M64 I played some in the DS remake and there really are some difficult stars to get, but I think the camera and the unforgiving jumping mechanic had a lot to do with the difficulty. Likewise Sunshine had a difficult camera to get used to but once you did, I thought it was a lot of fun and again the shines were much more involved. I did get every blue coin and shine in that game without a guide. Since I seem so bothered by it, it might actually be a fun activity for me to go back and revisit these games to do a thorough analysis and write-up on the topic. Would be nice to revisit that era. |
Yeah, I used to revisit that era from time to time. They were fun times! Tbh, I'd say that Banjo games in general are harder to me than Mario games generally. But talking about the same franchise, I honestly haven't noticed a brutal change between them xD. Most of the difficulty in some Sunshine areas was the camera, which was not pretty good in that game. Same with M64 at times. I wouldn't call that a fair difficulty, and that's why I don't regard them as the best Mario games have to offer (they're both my least favourite games in the franchise). Still great games though.
