Wow, that sounds so crazy to me. I'm playing through Super Mario 64 whenever I can pull myself away from Final Fantasy Tactics A2, and I must say that I find it to be every bit as magical as it was when I played it as a wide-eyed adolescent 20 years ago. I'm amazed at how well that game has aged. It really is the Citizen's Kane of 3D platforming. If you like Odyssey's gameplay style, then SM64 is a good game for you if you can look past the dated graphics and occassionally wonky camera.
Sunshine is definitely the weakest 3D Mario game, but that's like calling a former athlete the weakest member of a hall of fame. It's still a good game. It's also the last game before Odyssey to follow the less linear, more open formula that SM64 introduced.
I hope they are both available on the Switch VC by this time next year.
