I made an arithmetic error.

They actually shipped just under 5 million units, which explains why I was confused earlier.

They actually expect to ship over nine million units.

I think that's still lowballing it. 
For comparison's sake, the 3DS shipped 10.45 million units in the last six months' of its first fiscal year from October 2011 through March 2012. 8.35 million came from October 1st to December 31st, 2011.
