I only really played the first dark souls for about 10-15 hours till i returned it to gamefly. I am about to platinum Bloodborne however and dark souls games are hard, I don't care what anybody says. Bloodborne has made me rage like few games have (with ranked league being the only one to beat it) but while it is a defining feature or aspect, the difficulty of the "genre", it's not the only one. A focus on survival, skill, overcoming seemingly incredible odds, etc etc. Edit: It is a bit of a shame how the comparison gets thrown around but it has never bothered me before. Hell, i've never thought about it this hard ever.
And in my case, Bloodborne's lore. My god, the bloodborne lore is quite possibly my favorite of all times. For a game that seems very lacking in story or lore at first glance, it is one of the most fascinating and intriguing of all the games I've played.
I'm pointlessly rambling but Dark Soul-esque games are hard, but not for the sake of it. It's hard with a purpose? if that makes sense.
