Any person that knows anything about the video game industry knows that the Wii U and Switch situations are completely different.  So yes that seems stupid to me or at least a bullshit excuse.

Wii U?  What are you talking about?

Was it a bullshit excuse when they said the exact same thing about the Xbox One?

“I see no reason why we won’t eventually do next-gen,” Kislyi told IGN. “But first, let them come out. Second, let them get to a meaningful user base. In free-to-play, you have to have millions and millions of players."  http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/23/gamescom-world-of-tanks-may-eventually-come-to-xbox-one

If third party developers had the same attitude with regards to Playstation and Xbox they'd both struggle to sell past 10M units.

Switch is successful, just put all the games you can on it.

Selling units?  What does that have to do with this?

The Wii U flopped, scaring third party publishers away from Nintendos platform. Now th Switch is a raving success so far - but the publishers still maintain that "wait and see" mentality despite having really good sales both in hardware and third party software.

At the time the Xbox ONE version got released, the console had just 13.6 Million sales. So even if they would start porting the game just now, there's quite a high chance that by the time of releasing the game the Switch would already have passed that number.Plus, that interview was before the release of the current gen consoles, not over half a year after.
