Myt hoguth on dungeons being not a great, yet at same time better is due to them feeling you were still just in the world. Lots of games have this trouble with dungeons/buildings where you see this place and go inside of it and think "how teh fuck is all of this inside that" It kind of loses it's immersion in that regard. The dungeon is so unique and unlike the rest of the world, that it's like it was made seperate.
These ones, you were litterally just on a beast that you can see walking around the world. WHile on the beast you can see the world around you still. It's like when a game removes a loading screen going inside a biulding and youc an see outside the windows with people actually walking by versus a fake window that you can't see through or shows a static environment. The extra immersion of the dungeons I think is what make them feel better even though they weren't as clever, imo.
