The world and business also operated differently back then as well, so some of the things NiN did back then, weren't that big of a deal, at that point in time. The world is a different place today.

Yea, I don't think anyone complained about how Nintendo treated third party companies back in the NES and SNES days except maybe the developers/publishers themselves.  Pretty much zero gamers really gave a shit or even knew how Nintendo treated third party companies.

Perhaps people care now due to lack of third party support but other factors can add to that such as lower spec system or carts instead of disc (carts aren't even a hamper anymore compared to N64 days).  Like you said things are different now and Nintendo has been better at their third party relations (especially how well they embraced indies and changed their bad policies from Wii era such as sales threshold, having to have an office, etc).

Devs also didn't have the same type of power they do today, mostly because the gaming industry was still small back then, and basically nobody had the internet, so it was much more diffcult to get the word out when somebody was acting badly or just being unprofessional. Not to mention bad mouthing someone, or a corporation, could easily get you fired, or flat out beat down, which was normal back then. Using your words wasn't really a thing, and it sure wasn't respected. If you wanted respect back then, you took it, physically. Just look at America.

NiN had to learn the hard way when it came to third party support, but everyone has to learn something the hard way. What matters is how your react to it. NiN is old school though. Japanese old school. The fact that they have become what they are today still, is impressive. With younger blood in there, and the world staying the present course, things at NiN are bound to get more friendly all around as time goes on. They are just more cautious in some ways. Ironically, they are quite open when it comes to hardware design though.
