Honestly, I still think Don Mattrick's "We have a console for you: the 360", was far worse and more damaging. That basically said if you can't adapt your gaming to our obviously horrible business model, then go play the severely outdated hardware that we might continue to support for another year or so. It was arrogant, and borderline insulting to some as to how they just blatantly dismissed a huge portion of their playerbase.
The get a second job thing was stupid, but I interpret it as "our new console is so awesome, you'll get a second job because you want it so bad!". They shouldn't have pretended like high pricing was such an amazing thing, but at least there was a reason for it: the OG PS3 models were pretty beefy.
