If it’s just about hardware isolated from all other aspects of the company, why not count NES and SNES Classic sales? Two new home consoles from Nintendo sold alongside the Switch.

You keep saying "what about this"  or "what about that"  but once again I agree with you.  Of course we can compare previous generations. That's what we do on Vgchartz.  Compare and analyse sales.

You can absolutely compare Switch to Wii + Ds

Or ps4 vs ps2

Or ps4 vs ps1

Or ps4 + vita vs ps2

All valid and different comparisons for different reasons.

I'm most interested in ps4 vs PS3 personally and switch vs Wii U + 3DS because they are the most recent. But again I agree, we can compare to previous generations if you want.

Edit:

I'm also interested in 360 vs xb1 but we don't get official numbers from MS so there's less talk about that

First of all, why would PS4 + Vita versus PS2 be a valid comparison?

Secondly, do you think that if Sony had released a hybrid during the seventh generation instead of PSP and PS3, it would have sold 168 million worldwide? Or if Nintendo released a hybrid instead of DS and Wii, it would have sold 255 million worldwide?
